Emerge & Connect
(Newborn Mama Circle)
The Newborn Mama Circle has been designed to support a gentle transition from your postpartum period into the wider world of parenting and life. It is an invitation for mamas with babies under 4 months of age (or thereabouts) to gather in circle, to share and be witnessed in their first year together, and to gently untangle from any “shoulds” or people pleasing tendencies that may be coming up.
In this ten-week circle series, you and your baby will be welcomed into a warm, inviting space.
This space… is for you… to breathe… to settle into… and to integrate… all that being a mama is… for you.
It is also a space for your baby… to be a baby… without needing to be a “good” baby… a space to cry… to scream… or to sleep. A space that is free from judgement or expectation.
The permission to cry applies to you too! Or to laugh or to sing or to boast!
“The circles of women around us weave invisible nets of love that carry us when we’re weak and sing with us when we are strong.”
~Sark

what to expect
Unlike more mainstream parent-baby groups (which can also be wonderful), the Newborn Mama Circle invites discussion and curiosity around topics, rather than giving specific advice. It supports you to tune into, and be guided by, your own intuitive wisdom while gaining an insight into the experience of others. It is a place to speak from the heart, rather than receive knowledge for the head.
There are no “shoulds” and all of you is welcome: the joy; the self-doubt; the uncertainty, discomfort and exhaustion; the heart-exploding love together with the monotony of the mundane; the highs and lows; the tears and the laughter.
This space is for mamas who are feeling the call to connect deeply with themselves, their babies and with other women. Even if it terrifies them. It is possible to attend more than one 10-week series.
Typical circle structure:
Arrive & Settle In
Make space for yourself and your baby. Lay down for a rest. Attend to whatever needs may arise. Reflect on the journal/conversation prompt or bask in the experience of not needing to do anything.
Welcome & Agreements
Introduction to circle + theme. Set an intention and agree to the guidelines that help create a shared space of emotional safety.
Embodiment Practice
Our gathering commences with an embodiment practice + tuning in with bubbas.
Weekly Theme
A weekly theme is introduced in order to both reflect on dominant cultural narratives and explore personal values/optional pathways.
Heart-Sharing Space (optional)
Each woman is invited to respond to the weekly theme and/or share what is present for her.
Closing Ritual
Card pulling + poem or reading. Each woman is invited to share what she will be taking away from the session and/or making a request from the group.
Tea + Socialising or Rest
Take a quiet moment for yourself and/or attend to the needs of your baby. Grab a cuppa and chat with another or have a little lay down. You might like to take a little stroll around the neighbourhood before heading home.

“It’s time to start a new tradition – a movement – of postpartum care: one that honours the past and that will carry us, and our children, more kindly and happily into the future.”
